I've read that many Londoners that lived through the Blitz during World War II became nostalgic for the time when they all had to pull together as a people to get through it. The phrase that could be found on posters across London was, "Keep Calm and Carry On."
The same goes for people who survived the siege of Sarejevo during the Bosnian War in the 1990's.
Or Americans after the horror of 9/11 - where for a while our petty differences dissolved into a unity of purpose.
I hope that we can look back at our time during the COVID-19 pandemic with the same nostalgia. Of how we took care of one another - and words like valor, grit, perseverance, duty, and kindness became commonplace. Now is the time where you can be a hero every day in your own way. Take care of business, and each other.
