J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again" is one of my favorite books. The unlikely hero, Bilbo Baggins, is living a rather small and comfortable life when adventure and adversity is thrust upon him.
While he'd rather stay in his snug little home he takes that first step out the door. One step leads to another, and the Hero's Journey begins.
Even in the dark and wicked places, we are faced with the choice of turning back or to keep moving forward. If the hero turned back, that would not be much of a story. So it is with us.
We never know what adventures the next chapter brings - we just have to keep moving forward.
